He was born on August 5, 1976 inSumgayit. Ismayil started playing football at the age of 7 in "Khazar" (Sumgayit), then played for MOIK, "Shamkir", "Neftçi", "Qarabağ", "Karvan", "Inter" and "Absheron" and our national team. Mammadov was the Azerbaijan League champion with "Shamkir" (2000, 2001), and winner of the I Division with "Absheron" (2011).

He worked as head coach of "Sumgayit" (U-12) and FUIJGOEM (U-12, U-13, U-14), assistant coach of "Sabail-2", "Neftçi-2" and U-17 national team, as scout coach in "Elite training" project of AFFA, and became Reserve League champion with "Sabail-2" (2018).

He has UEFA "B" category coaching license.
